About the Area

The Shire of Hornsby “The Bushland Shire” is the second largest local government area in the Sydney region occupying an area of 510 square kilometres.

The Shire, located to the north of Sydney takes in land from Epping North to Wiseman’s Ferry and Brooklyn.

Surrounded by Kuring-Gai Chase Park, Murramurra Nature Reserve and Berowra Valley Regional Park, they provide large areas of bushland protecting native plants and animals. These areas are available for limited passive and active recreation.

Originally occupied by the Kuring-Gai and Dharug aboriginal tribes, the area has a vast history with more than 200 known sacred sites including rock shelter, midden and engravings.

Today’s Hornsby Shire is a modern metropolis with a cross section of multi-culturalism and continues to be a strong growing area with easy access to the North Coast via the F3 and the South Coast via the M5.

The area offers a good mix of both private and state schools, hospitals and a modern Westfield Shoppingtown complex which is one of the largest in the southern hemisphere.

The Hornsby Shire provides a vast range of facilities, which include golf courses, sports fields, cycling tracks, picnic areas, bush walking tracks, boating facilities and restaurants.

Surrounded in part by nature’s wonderland, Hornsby Shire is a truly beautiful place to visit and live and is the perfect environment for today’s family.
